"We couldn’t be happier with our IEC fan coils! I will never build another hotel with PTAC units. As far as we’re concerned, an IEC fan coil system is the only way to go when building hotels."

IEC's Universal Modular Unit appears in theNews' 2008 Heating Showcase

The Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration News 2008 Commercial Products Heating Showcase features International Environmental Corporation's Universal Modular unit. The article details the unit's features such as serviceability, noise-reduction, IAQ, thermostat compatibility, replacement parts, warranty and more.

IEC's Universal Mod, known as the U-Mod, is designed as a cost effective, easy to install, vertical high-rise fan coil unit. The main benefit includes the ability to accommodate any arrangement through the use of supply air and riser slot knock-outs. All U-Mod units are shipped separately from the risers. Risers are shipped loose, prior to the U-Mods so the mechanical contractor can install the risers early in the project schedule. By installing risers prior to the high-rise fan coil units a contractor has better accessibility for fire safing between floors at the riser block-outs and for testing the field joints from riser to riser.

When the U-Mod units are distributed in the building, there is a reduction in job site coordination time as related to arrangements of return air/supply, air/riser orientation. All U-Mods have the ability to conform to any arrangement thus saving the time to coordinate. All that is necessary is that a specific FC# is placed in the correct location. Arrangements are then tailored to the specific need in each room.
Another one of the benefits of this type of unit is in the retrofit/replacement market. Units shipped without risers allows for the use of freight elevators to transport units and loose risers to building floors. In conventional high-rise units, this is not possible if risers are attached to the units at the factory.
U-Mod units can be designed for all types of systems, including four-pipe, two-pipe heat/cool, two-pipe with auxiliary electric heat or two-pipe with total electric heat. These units range in size from 300 nominal cfm through 1200 nominal cfm.
The U-Mods use the same replacement parts as IEC's standard modular high-rise units. IEC has made purchasing replacement parts even easier with a quick turnaround parts department and online parts lookup.
